Fall Fashion Updates

Cooler temperatures and changing of the seasons call for wardrobe updates, thank you Mother Nature {as if we needed an excuse}! Adding pieces to my closet is not something you’ll find me complaining about, ever. I love fashion and shopping as much as I love food, it’s a necessity. Just like the décor in our homes; our attire represents who we are, what we enjoy and how we choose to express ourselves. Halloween Décor You’ll Love

We love this festive time of year when we can add some holiday decorations to our homes. However, there are ways we can do it without some of the tacky items, which are better left at the dollar store. We’ve racked our brains, and the great inter web, to bring you some fab Halloween decór ideas you’ll want to leave up all year round. Dinnerware Every Christmas my mom would break out our “Christmas china” for Christmas Eve dinner. We also had gold silverware for special holidays to match. So my questions is, “why does only Christmas get special dinnerware?” We love the idea of mixing it up with some moody colors, such as black and gold, which exude Halloween vibes! Where do we find such silverware? Gold is pretty easy to find these days, but we particularly like this affordable set from Target. But why stop there? Since we’re on the subject of silverware, I need these talon salad servers now! With these utensils and some black plates, no doubt October will be super festive! Light the Night

As a design lover, I hold many things close to my heart; amazing color palettes, daring pattern play, charming accessories and the list goes on. Can you guess just one thing that ranks higher than all of the above? M O M… and I’m sure this is the case for several of you. Not only has she instilled many of the traits that make me the woman I am today, but she continually teaches me about the woman I strive to be – just like her. My Mom is a problem solver, a fighter, the bravest woman I’ve ever known. With all of the challenges she’s faced, she’s survived the hardest of them all… cancer. In May 2007, my Mom was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) after a routine blood test revealed an elevated white blood cell count of 219,449. Want to know what the normal range is? Get ready… 4,000 to 10,000!!! That’s almost fifty five times higher than you or I. Well eight years later (and many scary and painful times in between), my Mom is cancer-free and a leukemia survivor. HGTV’s Fresh Faces of Design

What an exciting week it has been! First off, I had a M A J O R interview with a potential client… I should know their decision of working together by next week. Fingers crossed because this will be a fun one! Second, my new iPhone 6s arrived in a pretty little box this Friday morning (need I say more?)! And last but not least, the most exciting part of my week….. I was selected by HGTV as one of twelve finalists in the Big City Digs category of the ‪Fresh Faces‬ of Design competition! EEEEEK! I can’t even begin to explain the flood of happy emotions I’m experiencing. This marks HGTV‘s second year of highlighting new spaces and searching for the many design talents from across the country. The contest features a “public voting” component (think American Idol!). Here’s the scoop: with twelve categories and twelve designers in each, America (that’s JU) will have the opportunity to vote once a day, per device, in each category for their favorite project. Voting started Friday, September 25 at 6am EST and continues through October 30. Fall Forecast: Furniture and Décor

For most of the country, temperatures have been dropping since late August. For us Las Vegans it’s still in the 80’s. Nonetheless, Fall is just around the corner… this coming Wednesday to be exact. With the change in seasons comes a natural shift in design. Here at APJ we have an idea of which trends should make their way into your home and those that will fade away with summer! Wanna know how? I wish I could say it’s because we’re psychic, but we’re not (boo!). It might have something to do with our huge appetite for design (hello my name is Lisa, I am addicted to Pinterest & Instagram), or possibly it’s because we attended the always popular seminar “Ahead of the Curve” during Las Vegas Market last month… This highly coveted powwow merged industry talents, producing top quality advice and expert opinions. Moderating this year was Kelly Edwards; tv star among HGTV, The Style Network and The Design Network. Brian Patrick Flynn, Jon Call and Amanda Nisbet formed the rest of this dream team.
